In my mind I tend to think of the 60's as the Civil Rights Movement and the early 70's as the Anti-War Movement.

Dunno why, exactly. I mean, I know the Anti-War movement began in the mid- to late-60's and then continues into the 70's, and I know that the real direct action part of the Civil Rights Movement pretty much picked up steam after the Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954.

I think it is because it wasn't really until the Montgomery Bus Boycott victory before the Supreme Court that Martin Luther King, Jr. was thrust into the spotlight. I suppose some might think it sad that I kind of automatically collapse the Civil Rights Movement to King - I prefer to think that he was such an imposing figure in American history that like some great star he sucks events into his own orbit.

Still, I suppose like a lot of people I have a tendency to take events that span two different decades and then arbitrarily slot them into one or the other. It makes for ease of narration, but plays hob with accuracy.Swellsmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05593178312657435749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5352395970681996095.post-87301389471937800882011-10-04T15:41:30.653-07:002011-10-04T15:41:30.653-07:00just a nitpick: most of the actions and demands yo...just a nitpick: most of the actions and demands you mention WRT the Civil Rights movement happened before the 60s.kcgwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14423298768940379008noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5352395970681996095.post-75891542625408037532011-10-02T11:08:55.093-07:002011-10-02T11:08:55.093-07:00DJC -- I've been working through your FSFP pro...DJC -- I've been working through your FSFP proposal. It's a bit long, and I've printed it out to read in hard copy.

But it occurred to me that it might be something the protesters at Occupy Wall Street might be interested in. Have you thought about contacting them, or any of the thousands of people affiliated with that protest?

The easiest way to do so (the way I am mostly involved) is through www.dailykos.com They have an Occupy Wall Street tag (http://www.dailykos.com/news/Occupy%20Wall%20Street) that will index all the OWS articles at that site. If you're not already a member you might want to join and write up a diary outlining your ideas for their consideration.

Just a thought,

SwellsSwellsmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05593178312657435749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5352395970681996095.post-13683102498954506762011-10-02T01:18:20.419-07:002011-10-02T01:18:20.419-07:00They need a charter! A daily problem at the moment.

Swellsman: share holder democracy is flawed all the voting rights are held by nominee companies which are off shoots of banks and trading companies, suitably opaque. It concentrates power rather than dilutes it. To change this you must change wealth.DJChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07335081981957702549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5352395970681996095.post-37574519912551067652011-10-01T23:33:02.061-07:002011-10-01T23:33:02.061-07:00There is a way to have a global democratic equalit...There is a way to have a global democratic equality... the FSFP.
